Emerald Ash Borer and many other tree boring insects cause extensive damage to trees by burrowing under layers of the bark and killing the tree. Emerald Ash Borer was first discovered in northeast Iowa in 2010 and it has been found in many more cities since. Once EAB is discovered, it continues to spread, infesting many trees and causing unsightly damage to the area.
While EAB only feeds on ash trees, there are many other insects that can cause the same damage to trees by burrowing through the bark and eating the living material of the tree.
You’ll notice in the picture at right, the tree only has 50% of foliage left due to the damage of a boring insect. We are treating this tree with a product called TREEage, an insecticide that has been proven in independent studies to be very effective against Emerald Ash Borer and many other tree insects. TREEage is injected into the trunk of the tree, directly into the tree’s vascular tissue to assure even distribution and consistent results. Lawn-Tek has been professionally certified to offer these treatments.
Cedar Rapids, along with many other cities, began removing ash trees a couple of years ago to keep an Emerald Ash Borer infestation at bay.
If you have an ash tree or a tree that looks like one in the picture above on your property, it’s a good idea to be proactive and start a plan of how to care for these insects. We can help you with both preventative and pest treatment options. Trees that are dying from boring insects will be expensive to remove, therefore having a treatment plan to protect against these pests will be beneficial in the long run. Emerald Ash Borer treatments last for two years.
